Blog #3 (part 2) : Fil-Chi in The Philippines.

Fil-Chi


I've grown up in a Christian Filipino-Chinese school since my nursery years until high school, that's why I am not writing this blog by ear. I know my environment. For me, it's not quite normal to ask my classmates or my Fil-Chi or pure Chinese friends why did they want to live here in the Philippines, wherein they can live in their homeland--China, or in Hong Kong or Taiwan, or even Mongolia? I find it inappropriate.


Since this is a requirement, I dared myself asking a handful of my friends. The reason why they decided to make a living here in the Philippines, is because, first of all, their ancestors decided to reside here in the Philippines where they were free to be humans, where in contrary to their homeland, where they were treated as robots dictated under a drastic communist ruler.


Also, the way of living here in our place is way better than their fore-fathers' place. No wonder how they are slowly dominating the Philippines. (Hahaha!) Everywhere you look, it's all MADE IN CHINA. From school supplies, home appliances, to under garments and et al, everything is from their homeland. But the most heart-warming statement that I got from one of my friends is that "…iba pa rin mag-trato at magmahal nag Pinoy. Simply the best!"

What a PEN...IS ?

Before I start off with the pictures, i will provide a brief explanation of "phallic symbols" from a very good source - Wikipedia:

A phallus is an erect penis, a penis-shaped object such as a dildo, or a mimetic image of an erect penis. Any object that symbolically resembles a penis may also be referred to as a phallus, however, such objects are more often referred to as being phallic (as in "phallic symbol"). Such symbols often represent the fertility and cultural implications that are associated with the male sexual organ, as well as the male orgasm.

Blog 2: Both Sexes by Jewel Espiritu

Have you ever tried questioning yourself about the opposite Gender/Sex?
If not, here are some series of questions from both sex to the other.

The Girls in doubt:

- Why are boys into porn ?
- Why dont boys bring their stuff at school ?
- Why are boys into porn ?
- Why are boys diorganized ?
- Why do boys hide when they cry ?
- Why do guys love to play Dota, Black Ops , Counter Strike?


The Boys in doubt:

- Why can't girls eat at a Carindiria ?
- Why do girls take a long time in using the bathroom?
- Why can't girls wear the same clothes in a certain period of time ( a week )?
- Why can't girls go out of the house withour wearing a make-up ?
- Why do girls eat chocolate after break up's?
- Bakit ang mga girls mahilig magpaasa?


So have you ever asked the same question like we did?. How did you feel after reading those questions? What was your reaction to the opposite sex questions?
We all do remember the difference of a Man from a Woman during our history. Women were stuck at home doing all the household chores . Unlike the Men, they were the one doing the dirt work. Men were also the one who gets to finish his studies both at high-school and college. But today, A lot has change with both genders. Women are able to do men's work -- architecture , engineering, carpentry & education. While men are capable of doing what we women do like -- fashion. After seeing the changes, do you think both genders are still equal?

After the series of questions given, We have come to a point that both genders still have this " issues" or " questions" pertaining to the opposite sex/gender. I guess there is still inequality with both genders , because both genders have different needs which the opposite sex wouldn't understand. We would probably understand if we put ourselves into the shoes of the other sex.

They All Look the Same! (Blog#3: Korean)

When i was 11, I asked my brother of what he knows about the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. He answered, “Sabi nila, during the colonization era, both Spanish and American, Japanese merchants came to the Philippines to trade goods. Little did everyone know that some of them had other intentions. Meron daw, yung nagtitinda ng taho nun, general pala ng isang battalion ng mga hapon, tapos yung may-ari ng tindahan sa palengke daw, sergeant daw pall nila.” With that answer, i asked myself, “so why are there so many Koreans here in Manila? I do hope and believe that they’re not planning an invasion, right?”


I remember talking to my korean friends back in high school. I asked them why they are here in the Philippines. One of them said that education is better and cheaper here. Another said that he is escaping the two-year compulsory military service of their country. One girl answered, “Because Filipinos can teach English very well and they don’t cost very high.”


So far, all the Koreans that I know are very friendly and kind. I hope that we Filipinos won’t treat them indifferently and still continue to show that hospitality we are well-known for.

Weeh!! Hindi nga?!

Filipino expressions have already been evolving as the years go by. With much influenced by the Western language and Asian languages, the Filipinos were able to derive terms and expressions, that are until now, being used daily and heard by many.


Top in the hit chart is the expression--"ASTIG!" Take note! It's not
pronounced with a short "i". But a long "i". The longer your prolong the "i", the better! When you pronounce or say it "Astig", according
to the Urban Dictionary, it is the reversed form of "tigas", and "astig" had a new meaning that connote
s: super cool in get-ups, wardrobe, hairstyle, and
everything. It is also parallel to the American expression: AWESOME! Or rather to the Japanese expression: SUGOY!

Next stop--"
ULOL". It may sounds off, but yes, it's really off. Well, for some, yes, for some no. According to my best friend--Urban Dictionary--"ulol" is a Filipino term o
r slang for stupid. Good thing about this expression is that it can be both a question and at the same time a
phrase. Again, it's like the Filipino expression for "SHUT UP, YOU BITCH!" or "HELL, NO!" from the Americans, of course.

Lastly, the famous and never-changing expression of most Filipinos--"WEEEH?! HINDI NGA!?" Ever since I was a kid, I've already been hearing this for quite a lot from my elder cousins and relatives, that whenever someone would make a shocking news or some sort of an unbelievable report, they would normally express, or but in I should say, "Weeeh?! Hindi nga!?" Sometimes, they would add to the expression, "...pwera biro!" I personally use this a lot whenever I hear people revealing unnecessary stuff. Hehehe. But then again, it's parallel to the American expression "FOR REAL?!"

I can say that no matter what expression we use, we make use of them depending on the situation we are in. It also depends on the emotion that we have on the current situation. Like technology, words are also developing and evolving. May be in the long run, say fifty years, some of the Filipino expressions will may no longer be in use, but others will still remain as is, as fresh as the pancakes.

WEEEEEEH?! HINDI NGA!!!?
