Fil-Chi

I've grown up in a Christian Filipino-Chinese school since my nursery years until high school, that's why I am not writing this blog by ear. I know my environment. For me, it's not quite normal to ask my classmates or my Fil-Chi or pure Chinese friends why did they want to live here in the Philippines, wherein they can live in their homeland--China, or in Hong Kong or Taiwan, or even Mongolia? I find it inappropriate.

Since this is a requirement, I dared myself asking a handful of my friends. The reason why they decided to make a living here in the Philippines, is because, first of all, their ancestors decided to reside here in the Philippines where they were free to be humans, where in contrary to their homeland, where they were treated as robots dictated under a drastic communist ruler.

Also, the way of living here in our place is way better than their fore-fathers' place. No wonder how they are slowly dominating the Philippines. (Hahaha!) Everywhere you look, it's all MADE IN CHINA. From school supplies, home appliances, to under garments and et al, everything is from their homeland. But the most heart-warming statement that I got from one of my friends is that "…iba pa rin mag-trato at magmahal nag Pinoy. Simply the best!"

The Girls in doubt:

- Why are boys into porn ?
- Why dont boys bring their stuff at school ?
- Why are boys into porn ?
- Why are boys diorganized ?
- Why do boys hide when they cry ?

When i was 11, I asked my brother of what he knows about the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. He answered, “Sabi nila, during the colonization era, both Spanish and American, Japanese merchants came to the Philippines to trade goods. Little did everyone know that some of them had other intentions. Meron daw, yung nagtitinda ng taho nun, general pala ng isang battalion ng mga hapon, tapos yung may-ari ng tindahan sa palengke daw, sergeant daw pall nila.” With that answer, i asked myself, “so why are there so many Koreans here in Manila? I do hope and believe that they’re not planning an invasion, right?”

I remember talking to my korean friends back in high school. I asked them why they are here in the Philippines. One of them said that education is better and cheaper here. Another said that he is escaping the two-year compulsory military service of their country. One girl answered, “Because Filipinos can teach English very well and they don’t cost very high.”

So far, all the Koreans that I know are very friendly and kind. I hope that we Filipinos won’t treat them indifferently and still continue to show that hospitality we are well-known for.

Filipino expressions have already been evolving as the years go by. With much influenced by the Western language and Asian languages, the Filipinos were able to derive terms and expressions, that are until now, being used daily and heard by many.

I. Fashion:

Filipinos don't really have that "fashion sense" in casual wears, not to mention the pambansang kasuotan : Barong Tagalog at Baro't Saya, and we mostly see Filipinos as copycats of other nationals like Japanese, Korean, Thai, etc.

So, let me pick some of the common "fashion" seen too common in our society (not in any ranked order). By the way, this is all based in my opinion and :

First will always be the common Shirt and Jeans. This may be too common worldwide, but when you look everywhere, there will always be someone wearing shirt and jeans.

"Super-mini Shorts (aka Pekky Shorts)" for Girls and "Walking Shorts" for Guys





This is somehow one casual wear that you can see them wearing especially for girls, they tend to wear this bikini shorts, though quite sexual.



















Another will be the "The Tuck-In Fashion" ...

We now often see people bringing back the "past" to the present. Anyway, most of us do tuck-in shirts inside their jeans, right? Like they used to before. Waistline bottoms are also "in" currently.











One fad to watch out is the "Jejemon Style" only in the Philippines right?




People make it a big deal with those Jejemon people, as if they're from the JejePlanet. Anyway, only in the Philippines this group of people exist, thus, I kind of included this here.

From the things I just mentioned, I couldn't really think of any more but FEW of the things I notice. However, personally, the ONE AND ONLY FASHION that is best for EVERYONE is the "comfortable outfit" - the fashion which we can carry and will make us feel beautiful. That way, we can feel beauty and comfort at the same time. PLUS, increases our self-esteem.
